Client Overview
Reuben’s Retreat is a charity supporting families who have suffered the loss of a child or have a child living with medical complexities. They believe in a fully accessible world where being unique is celebrated and provide a place where families can feel safe, cared for and held in their journey.
Based in Glossop, Derbyshire, the charity is transforming its stunning retreat into a place of comfort, compassion, and connection for those who need it most.
The charity was founded in memory of Reuben Michael Graham, whose legacy of love continues to inspire every initiative.
The Challenge
Reuben’s Retreat wanted to launch a creative fundraising campaign that would:
Engage supporters emotionally, drawing on personal elements of the charity.
Encourage one-off donations to contribute to the wider One In A Million campaign to help fund the renovation of new areas within the Retreat.
Offer a tangible way to recognise donors and allow them to be part of the Reuben's community.
Our Approach
Home Marketing worked closely with Reuben’s Retreat to bring the Brick by Brick campaign to life, a fundraising initiative inspired by Reuben and his big brother Isaac’s love for Lego and Duplo.
We focused on:
Telling the story, linking cherished family memories of Lego to the idea of building the Retreat.
Creating a symbolic gesture, for every £123 donated (a nod to Reuben’s angel number, 23), a personalised Lego brick would be displayed on the Retreat’s “Wall of Thanks” once renovations are complete.
Crafting clear, engaging instructions making it easy for supporters to donate, leave a name, and see how their gift would be recognised.
Tying the campaign into the wider #OneInAMillion and #CompleteTheRetreat goals, ensuring consistency with Reuben’s Retreat’s ongoing fundraising and branding.
The Result
The Brick by Brick campaign is providing Reuben’s Retreat with a meaningful and visually powerful fundraising tool. Supporters are able to contribute in a personal way, knowing their name (or a loved one’s) would be permanently recognised within the Retreat.
When renovations are complete, the Wall of Thanks will stand as a physical reminder of the kindness and compassion that helped #CompleteTheRetreat, one brick, one name, one act of love at a time.
